Who is Nyrk?

Hey, I'm Nyrk and I simply like to entertain other people. One of my hobbys is, of course, playing different songs on my Launchpad, recording them and uploading all this as videos to YouTube to inspire others and get in contact with different people around the world who have the same hobby as me. The main point about my entire channel is to create project files which can even be used by people who only have the Lite version of Ableton Live, so nobody needs to buy any software or extensions to play my covers. However, when I'm not creating any projects for a new video, I like to code plugins for Ableton Live or coding this website in html, css and js. I also enjoy just messing around and at least trying to create some own music but I'm still at the very beginning so I didn't publish anything yet. Let's see how it goes in the future :D
If you are still not sure what exactly I do, feel free to check out my YouTube channel or contact me for further questions.

FAQ

Just send me the questions I should add here to my social media!

Q: What is your recording gear?
A: I use my iPhone Xr to record my videos. I just place my launchpad onto my black desk and use my Ikea desk lamp I already had as my lighting. Doesn't seem to be too bad...

Q: What are your PC specs?
A: Computer: 2012 MacBook Pro 13"
Processor: 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
RAM: 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
Software: OS X 10.15.2

Q: Why did you start launchpadding?
A: I saw Nev's "I Want You To Know" cover and I wanted to know what that strange button thing is so I searched up some stuff on google and came across the Launchpad. After this I started to watch Launchpad covers and bought one myself a bit later.

Q: Since when do you have your Launchpad?
A: I bought my Launchpad MK2 in May 2016 and got my Launchpad Pro in December 2016.

Q: Do I need m4l to play your projects?
A: I use some m4l devices to light up the mode light or the top lights of my Launchpad or change pages automaticly. However, this can all be done without m4l and I build my light effects with the build-in live MIDI effects so you can see the lights on Ableton Live Lite too.

Fade

This preset is useful for any multi-color effects, no matter if you use m4l or not.

Simply drag this preset behind any light effect you created in live to make it a rainbow effect. Fade repeats the effect in up to 7 colors of your choice. To do so, just change the macros to the velocitys you want. Note that if you leave a macro at 0, only the velocitys in front of it will get displayed but none after it. You can choose how long each color should stay by turning the "Time" macro. The "Note Length" device in the "Display" chain will show you the amount of time each color will stay.

Flip

This preset lets you mirror or rotate your light effect in any given direction.

Simply drag this preset behind any light effect you created in live to transform it however you want. If you want to rotate your light effect by a certain angle, just drag the right macro all the way up to anything above 64. If you want to flip the effect horizontally or vertically, just twist any of the upper macros. You can also transform the effect in addition to letting it pass trough without modification if you active the "Bypass" macro or you can activate multiple macros at once to get a completly different effect. Just play around and try some things out.

Superchord

This preset is an upgraded version of the normal chord MIDI effect.

This preset is used as a normal chord device but can have up to 8 different shifts instead of 6. These shifts can go from -128 to +128 instead of just -36 to +36. This allows you to create light effect which go over the entire launchpad way easier.

Aurora

This is a very useful plugin for everyone who likes to create his lights in midi clips!

Creating light effects in MIDI clips has become very popular recently...
I never created an own project with MIDI clips but was helping out different people creating such MIDI clips so they can use it as light effects. I was also wondering if I can code a plugin, to play the MIDI files, where I can add some cool extra features which some other MIDI-players don’t have. This is what I came up with.

Download now!

The MIDI-player

At its core, Aurora is a simple MIDI-player.

It allows you to playback a MIDI file as a light effect on your Launchpad. To do so, simply drag a MIDI clip onto the device and release your mouse. The light effect will now be played whenever a MIDI signal reaches the device. The name of the file will get showed on the device as soon as the clip is dropped onto it.

Drop a MIDI-file

The file's name will be displayed

Chokes

These chokes work similar to the ones for the samples. If two light effects have the same choke, only one of them can play at a time. Additionally to this you can choose the choke mode so define when the light effect should stop. You can choose between letting it stop as soon as the other effect starts to play or to let it end on the next loop.

Loop

If you turn this option on, the MIDI file will loop as long as it gets stopped by another light effect in the same choke.

Speed

Similar to MIDIfire you can choose how fast your lighteffect should be displayed. The slider and the number sync all the time so they show the same value. You can choose any values between 1% - 200%. Please note that the light effect gets already synced to your live sets BPM and the speed will then get changed from that.

Setup & Usage

Please note that you need to have max for live installed in order to use this plugin. In Live 10, m4l is included and gets downloaded and installed automaticly. This plugin will work all the time, no matter where you saved it. It only needs to be saved somewhere on your computer. However I'd recommend you to put it in the same folder like all the other m4l plugins you have.
To use the plugin, simply put it in a chain assigned to the button which should trigger the light effect.

Downloads

You can download the different versions of Orion here, no matter which version of Ableton Live or Max you use.

It is important to know that the versions for Max 7 and Max 6 will have an additional menu where you need to select the midi port where the midi data should get send to. Orion then sends all of its outcoming midi data to this specific port, no matter what you set the output menu of the midi track to. If you are not sure which port you should select here, just select the Launchpad you are using.

Orion

This plugin lets you use your top lights and your mode light easily!

In the past, there have been many different versions of top lights plugins...
Since I wanted to use my top lights and the mode light at the same time I just created this small plugin which does all of this. There is no need for any midi translater or other extra applications to be opened at the same time to use the mode light. If you want to know how Orion exactly works just continue reading. If you want to start using it right now just click the button below.

Top Lights

Orion lets you use different ranges of notes for the top lights, what means that the top lights get displayed correct even on the Launchpad MK2.

The plugin lets you choose if you use a Launchpad Pro or the Launchpad MK2 (The Launchpad MK1/original, S and Mini don't need any plugins to use the top lights) and lets you choose for which Launchpad the project file was made. This way your top lights will get displayed correctly, no matter if you are playing a project for the MK2 on a Pro, or vice versa, or any other combinations. Some other top lights plugin have the issue, as they only show the top lights of projects for the Launchpad Pro correctly. The top-lights-note-ranges for the Launchpad MK2 and Pro are the following:

Launchpad MK2:
Notes 108 - 115 (C7 - G7)

Launchpad Pro:
Notes 28 - 35 (E0 - H#0)

The most left button of the top row uses the lowest note of each scale and then continues to the right until the most right button uses the highest note.

Mode Light

If you have a Launchpad Pro, you can use Orion to light up the mode light. To do so, simply select the note which should light up the mode light in its menu. This can be any note you want. By default, this note is set to 27 (D#0).
The mode light uses the same velocitys like all the other buttons. Please note that this version of the plugin only works in Live 10. If you want to use the mode light in Live 9, just scroll down to the downloads of older versions.

To use the plugin, simply drag it to the very end of your lights track. It will then convert the notes for the top lights and the mode light and output it to the port which you set in the midi channel output menu.

This plugin is free for public use. You may use this in your projects, however do not claim to have created the plugin. This isn’t mandatory, however I would appreciate it if you were to link this website in the videos description.

Blackhole

Wormhole breaks all current laws of physics.
Blackhole breaks all current laws of Wormhole...

Blackhole gives your even more control about your live set than Wormhole!
Ever since Nev released his plugin "Wormhole", I was fascinated by the fact that you can change the macros in your live set and play samples or light effects with the same button. However, I thought it'd be more useful if there is a device which doesn't change the macros in only its own track, but in all of your tracks.

Download now!

Macro Control

Blackhole works just like Wormhole, except for one thing.
While Wormhole only changes the macros of the track it is in, Blackhole allows you to choose if it should change the macros in just the track it is in or in every track in your live set. It will affect the macros of the very first effect rack in the track.

Cross-Track Control

Like I already mentioned above, Blackhole can change the macros in all of the tracks in your live set. I hope you just try this out on your own, as it's hard to show this in a picture here on the website.

To use the plugin, simply drag it to the chain which should update the macros. It will then update the macros of either the track it is in or all of the tracks in your live set (depending on what you want it to do) to the values you chose. Please note that this will only happen if the macro-updaters are turned on and the number turns blue. If you activate a macro-updater but leave it at 0, this macro will get changed to 0 as soon as Blackhole receives input data.

This plugin is free for public use. You may use this in your projects, however do not claim to have created the plugin. This isn’t mandatory, however I would appreciate it if you were to link this website in the videos description.

Please also note, that the original plugin "Wormhole" was made by SoNevable.

Warpfire

Warpfire is the perfect device for live performances.
It allows you to change the BPM of your live set easily.

Warpfire lets you change the BPM of your live set via MIDI data.
One of my friends asked me if I can create a plugin for an upcomming video of him which can change the BPM simply by pressing a button on your Launchpad. This is what I came up with.

Download now!

Tempo Change

The Main feature of Warpfire is to change the BPM of your live set.
However, there are a few parameters which you can adjust. One of them is the tempo your live set should get warped to. No matter at which BPM you are at the moment, you can let the plugin change it to anything else within Live's limits (meaning between 20-999 BPM). You can also type in the values using your keyboard so type stuff like 110.50 or something like that.

Warp Mode

The warp mode allows you to let the BPM change in two different modes. The first one, which is called 'Change Instant', will change the BPM of the live set as soon as the device gets any MIDI-input. The second mode, called 'Ramp Tempo' will ramp the tempo up/down over a certain amount of time. If you choose this mode, the BPM will change over time, meaning it will fade up/down.

Ramp Time

The mode 'Ramp Time' allows you to let the BPM fade to your desired value.

If you have chosen this mode, it will take a certain amount of time until the BPM has changed completly. It will simply fade to the new value like shown in the video above. You can choose how long this time should be by changing the 'Ramp tempo over x Bars'-number. This can be anything between 1-256 bars. Simply click that number and drag your mouse up or down while holding the left mouse button to change this value. You can also type in a number with your keyboard if that should be more comfortable for you.

To use the plugin, simply drag it to the chain which should change the BPM (Beats Per Minute). It will then change the BPM in the mode you chose. Please also note that Warpfire is letting trough all MIDI signals so you can put it right in front of a sample or light effect.

This plugin is free for public use. You may use this in your projects, however do not claim to have created the plugin. This isn’t mandatory, however I would appreciate it if you were to link this website in the videos description.
